In today design, meeting the required need of a client is not all the objective of design but in great relevant, how well being can be fuss into the functionality of a design. In recent time the meaning of well-being cut across different discipline and according to world health organization (WHO) health is no longer the absence of ill-health but a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being. So, design has reached the level where provision of quality-built environment is one of the focuses of a designer.

The major parameters to be satisfy when considering wellbeing in a building include, Health, Comfort and Happiness.

Health can be referred to as absence of disease; comfort which is a condition of the mind that expresses satisfaction holistically; and Happiness handle the aspect of emotions experienced potentially ranging from contentment to joy.

So as a designer, your design should give room to all relevant condition that will lead to positive enhancement of well- being such as adequate daylight, views to nature, using fascinating colors, using acoustic material against noise, indoor air quality, good furnishing and more, because according to the 2001 National Human Activity Pattern and Survey we spend 90% of our time indoors.

Considering conditions within space design that will enhance well-being;

Every space design should have the potential to encourage social connection within the home and with the neighborhood. Social connection within the home should be gathering of the family and even with visitors. There should be a connection with the neighborhood through access and proximity to communal resources.

CONNECTION WITH NATURE

Biophilia is one of the ideas adopted in this form which is the human connection with nature and other forms of life. This kind of innovation enhance affinity of human to their natural environment for good living. And design that connect us to nature is proven to inspire us, boost our productivity and greatly contribute to a stronger sense of well-being. The use of plant in our space and around us provide and reflect a healthier opportunity for living. Also, the connection to public spaces such as garden, accessible green spaces through the neighborhood help to promote well-being.

LIGHTING

Light is one of the increasing elements in home design, but in all-natural light is the most important when considering wellbeing, because natural light provide great health and wellness boost. And many studies have proof that it improves productivity, mood and alertness, and can also impact upon our psychology state.

Natural light makes available for our body vitamin D which help us to absorb calcium from the food, and the calcium is needed for the bone formation and stability. And natural light also helps to regulate production of Cortisol which make us alert during the day and Melatonin which ensure we get tired when it is dark.

COLOUR

Color has a great impact on the mood of a room and how it makes the inhabitant feels, and the different color used can really affect the environment and can either overestimate or under stimulate the inhabitant of the space. Lighter colors are regarded to be airy and can make rooms larger and even brighter. Darker colors are more regarded as to be more refined and make rooms feel more intimate and warmer.

Base on experiment, colors like pink and cream color are bright and can excite the mind along with boost of creativity. Passive color like blue and green are cool and can calm the mind and help with mental focus.

CONCLUSION

This is one of the conditions that help in the delivery of a very healthier and functional space design which i have come to discover and this will have a great positive impact in future design practice if critically considered and put to use because designing with well-being in view is of great important, and design should always nudge inhabitant into a positive behavior because design of spaces and assigning of materials can affect our relationship with each other and the environment by creating interactive setting for life. This can be achieve in such a way as to provide opportunities to improve our sense of well-being in combination with nature. Well-being at times is intimately linked with moment of delight and this kind of experience can be stimulated by design. A good design can stimulate many moments of delight that support well-being and poor design can leave our lives impoverished.
